The Department of Political Science was established in 2001 and honours course was introduced in 2003. Currently the department offers two programmes under the WBSU NEP structure 4 Year B.A Major in political science and 3 Year Multidisciplinary Programme with political science as a combination subject. Political Science undergraduate program is rooted in the recognition of the increasing significance of cross-disciplinary studies in the social sciences and is organized around the combined perspectives and analytical tools of Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, and History. The department ushers the students to understand the subject in the following lines

*       Through the study of important philosophical, theoretical and ideological foundations in the study of political science, students are expected to develop critical thinking.

*       Understand and follow changes in patterns of political behaviour, ideas and structures. Develop the ability to make logical inferences about social and political issues on the basis of comparative and historical knowledge.

*       An exposure to international relations and global politics further enhances the understanding of international system and institutions, critical global issues and debates.

*       Learning the fundamentals of Indian government and politics informs the students about rights, responsibilities and effective citizenship.

The department engages in various teaching methods beyond lecture and classroom teaching by emphasizing on Debate & Dialogue,Group discussion, report writing, Stress on current events, Role play and Socio- community based experiential learning.
