The Department of Bengali and the Gender Empowerment Cell of Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya, jointly in collaboration with IQAC, organised a Special Lecture on the occasion of International Women's Day on 11th March 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Seminar Room. The event featured two distinguished speakers who addressed thought-provoking themes centred on women's experiences and representations. The principal speaker, Dr. Soumi Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, West Bengal State University, Barasat, delivered a lecture on "Women in Bengali Literature: Context and Contemporary Times," offering a critical and nuanced exploration of how women have been portrayed and have evolved as voices in Bengali literary tradition. The second speaker, Dr. Anwesha Dasgupta, Convener of the Gender Empowerment Cell, Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya, spoke on "Women as Shadow Warriors in the Context of War and Conflict Zones," shedding light on the often unrecognised yet courageous roles women play in conflict-ridden regions. The programme provided a rich intellectual platform to reflect on the multidimensional contributions and struggles of women, making it a meaningful and inspiring celebration of International Women's Day.
